Hello blogosphere.
My children have finally convinced me that I have so many valuable things to say that I should start a blog. What can I say? They are proud of me. I am going to be feeling out this process slowly and any help or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to sharing with you the lessons I have learned about nutrition, hiking, and faith.

This is the most awesome gift from my daughter, Addy. We have talked about blogging, but it was only an idea in my head. She has pushed me in the deep in (again… she was my backpacking inspiration). She set up this blog for me!!! To some of you that is probably a small thing, but to my untrained computer mind this is big. I can’t thank you enough for your encouragement, help, listening ear, believing in me and your generous love. My time with you on the trail this summer was such a sweet gift to me.

Love this Amy! Now looking for your recipes. Healthy Breakfast ideas, snacks for the kids…loved the info you shared about how much sugar kids typically consume in a week– EEEEK.

Christina, I thought of you tonight as I did my “sugar show” for some friends. As I put teaspoon size sugar bags into a mug I asked, “Would you put this much sugar in your cup of coffee?” 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 NO! We wouldn’t dream of it. Well, that’s how much sugar is in a can of pop. 4 grams of sugar equals a teaspoon. You do the math on a fruit drink or 32 ounce fountain drink. Now look at the sugar content in what is often considered a health food, yogurt. A small container can have around 5 tsps. of sugar. It’s can be challenging to find a box cereal with a low sugar content. When you take on the ‘”label detective” job you soon see how easy it is to reach 3/4 lb. of sugar in a day.

Judy,
Doug and I moved home this weekend, so getting together wil be much easier now. Maybe you, Pauline and I can go to Cloudland Canyon and hike some time. We’re taking it easy over the next weeks, as we settle back in. It’s been great to be with the kids in Miss., but it feels good to have only one place to live again. Look forward to seeing you soon.
